Early works (2003–2010)
works on paper (pastel and tea water)

In the early self-portraits, I explore the lingering and constant presence of thoughts, particularly those of fear, that interrupt during everyday moments. Fear is represented by a multitude of human faces, reflecting my irrational anxiety in large, crowded spaces. The works depict mundane acts of relaxation, role-playing, reverie, spending time with family and pursuing creative interests that are all rendered with an undercurrent of mental unease.

The works are saturated with tones that suggest broodiness and pensive moods, capturing the emotional impact of lingering thoughts. In the Trepidation series green pastels dominate the paper surface evoking inner tension whereas in the tea-water series sepia, derived from tea staining, is reflective of the pensiveness.

These works are records of my early attempts to externalize internal states. They form the foundation for my current investigation of mental spaces.
