about

Deepa Mahajan is a multimedia artist whose work explores the intangible territory of the mind, investigating how thoughts and emotions shape inner experience. Her practice centers on inner struggle, opposing mental states and unsettled emotions and thoughts that remain unresolved. She expresses this tension as a felt experience, using material, form and space to explore mental states of push and pull.

Through collage, installation and drawing, she offers no direct answers but instead makes observations, highlights findings and raises broader concerns. In her early work, she depicted the persistent presence of fearful thoughts that cloud everyday life and generate pensive moods.

Her work has been shown internationally and in the United States at venues such as 621 Gallery (Florida), Chemould Prescott Road (Mumbai), Grants Pass Museum of Art (Oregon), the Multicultural Heritage Centre (Canada), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha), and the Dayton Society of Artists (Ohio), among others. She was a finalist for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize and was selected for Santorini Biennale in Greece. She has also received an artist merit grant to attend the Vermont Studio Center residency. Mahajan’s work has been reviewed by publications including the Free Press Journal, Hindustan Times, and The Straits Times.
