about

In her multimedia practice, Deepa Mahajan explores the dual nature of thoughts, investigates their interdependence with emotions, and examines personal situations that cause mental conflict. In her early works she explored the basic characteristics of thoughts. She classifies her works as inner portraits that put a spotlight on the intangible territory of the mind and offer no direct answers.

Mahajan was born in India, where she also received her bachelor’s degree in engineering. Since 2003, her work has been shown internationally and in the United States at venues such as 621 Gallery in Florida, Chemould Prescott Road in Mumbai, Grant Pass Museum of Art, Multicultural Heritage Centre in Canada, Bemis Center in Omaha, and Dayton Society of Artist in Ohio, among others. She is the recipient of Sovereign Asian Art Prize as finalist and was selected for the biennale of Santorini in Greece. She has been awarded artist merit grant to attend residency at the Vermont Studio Center. She has been reviewed by outlets such as the Free press Journal, Hindustan Times and SPH Publications Singapore.
